The University of Papua New Guinea Career Exposition is aimed at providing students, especially final year students, with the opportunity to engage with organisations and connect with potential employers, and to enhance their skills and take the next step in their career journey. The University’s Student Services Division hosted the 2024 UPNG Career Expo on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 August, at the University’s Waigani Campus. The two-day event saw exhibitors from 24 organisations, and over 600 final year students took part in the first day of the Career Expo and engaged with the exhibitors. Day 2 of the Career Expo was open to the first, second, and third year students from all major programs. The University’s Student Services Division, Acting Director, and Career Coordinator, Ms. Dika Iru, expressed her thanks to the exhibitors for accepting the University’s invitation to participate in this year’s career expo, said that their commitment, wealth of opportunities, and the resources that they brought, shows the power of collaboration and networking with the students. Students interacting with exhibitors during the Career Expo last week at the University’s Drill Hall, Waigani Campus. “Your presence showcased a diverse range of career options available for our students and I thank you for taking the time to come to UPNG,” added Ms. Iru. The Student Services Division through the Career Development Office, has been organizing the UPNG Career Expo every year since 2016, to provide the opportunity for students across all majors to actively engage with employers who have internships, graduate development programs, and full-time positions to fill, and most importantly, students can learn more about future opportunities with specific companies, solidifying their personal career goals, and building a professional network. “The career expo is an opportunity for our students to ask questions and gain information about organisations’ profiles, employment requirements, internships and graduate development programs, in hopes of finding good employment opportunities after they graduate, and also to help them in their career journey,” said Ms. Iru. Representatives from the participating organisations highlighted the importance of career expos and encouraged the students to meet employers, explore internship and job opportunities, and make a good first impression on their next potential employer. Ms. Iru assured the participating organisations that the University, through its Career Development Office, will continue to promote and support the organisations’ roadshows, internships and graduate development programs, and other recruitment programs. Certificates of Participation, along with gifts packs were presented to the exhibitors as a token of appreciation for participating in the 2024 UPNG Career Expo.
